Flying lessons, the grounds of Alnwick castleįlying lessons are an emblematic feature of the Harry Potter world. In the second film, The Chamber of Secrets, the cathedral provides the setting for the classroom of Professor McGonagall, who teaches Transfiguration to the second-year students. It is in the snowy cloisters of the cathedral where we see Harry release his owl Hedwig during the Christmas holidays of his first year. It was used in the first film of the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, released 25 years ago. Amongst them, Durham Cathedral, built in the 11 th century, which has been used as a film location on many occasions. Professor McGonagall’s classroom, Durham Cathedralįor scenes shot inside Hogwarts, the creators of Harry Potter selected several very grand locations. A luggage trolley, embedded in the brick wall, has been installed, providing the perfect set up for fans of the Potter series to pose for a photo, and is only a few steps away from the Harry Potter Shop. In reality these scenes were filmed between platform 4 and 5 of the station in London. It is here, via a magical portal between platforms 9 and 10, where students can access the secret platform of the Hogwarts Express. An iconic location in the Harry Potter series, Kings Cross Station in London appears in every installment of the young wizard’s adventures.
